Effects
Effects
Section titled “Effects”Cyclosonics includes a full effects suite with global delay, reverb, EQ, and per-voice overdrive. If you’re new to audio effects, here’s a quick primer on what each one does:
- Delay repeats your sound after a short gap, like an echo bouncing off a wall. Adjusting the timing and number of repeats can make a sound feel spacious or rhythmic.
- Reverb simulates the way sound behaves in a physical space — a small room, a large hall, or something completely otherworldly. It adds depth and atmosphere.
- EQ (equalization) lets you boost or cut specific frequency ranges. Think of it like a tone knob: turn up the lows for more rumble, cut the highs if something sounds harsh.
- Overdrive adds grit and harmonic richness by pushing a signal past its clean limit. At low levels it adds warmth; at high levels it creates aggressive distortion — think clean electric guitar versus a cranked amp.
Signal Flow
Section titled “Signal Flow”Voice → Overdrive → Delay Send ─→ Delay → Reverb Send ─→ Reverb → Dry output ──→ Master Mix → EQ → OutputEach voice has its own overdrive and independent send levels to the global delay and reverb. The dry signal and effect returns are summed at the master mix, then processed through the EQ.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Time | Delay time |
| Feedback | Amount of delayed signal fed back into the delay |
| Filter Type | Low-pass, high-pass, or band-pass filter on the delay line |
| Filter Cutoff | Frequency cutoff for the delay filter |
| Spread | Stereo width of the delay taps |
Reverb
Section titled “Reverb”| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Decay | How long the reverb tail lasts |
| Size | Virtual room size |
| Diffusion | Density of early reflections |
| Flutter | Modulation/movement in the reverb tail |
| Dampening | High-frequency absorption (darker reverb) |
| Shimmer | Octave-shifted reverb for ethereal, shimmering tails |
A global parametric EQ with bands for low, mid, and high frequencies. Found on the Setup page. The EQ section is not preset specific, and will apply to all audio generated by Cyclosonics. Use it to shape the overall tonal balance — boost lows for a speaker setup, cut highs if it’s too bright, etc.
Per-Voice Overdrive
Section titled “Per-Voice Overdrive”Each voice has an individual overdrive control that adds harmonic saturation before the signal hits the effects sends. Subtle values add warmth; higher values create aggressive distortion.
